1. Choose ONE "dimension" of heroism" listed in the article "The Banality of Heroism" (above).
2. Write a SPA/ CER paragraph stating whether you agree or disagree and why.
-----S/C: Your statement should express agreement or disagreement and provide a reason WHY.
-----B: Is there anything your reader needs to know to understand your proof/ evidence?
-----P/E: Your evidence can be an example from your life, another text you’ve read, or from the world at large (does NOT need to be a quotation this time)
-----A/R: Make a direct connection between your example and your reason why. (The fact that __ proves ___).

- Finish revising Story #3 Theme SPA/ CER paragraph.

Homework Monday (11/26) - Friday (11/30): Keep writing your short story in Google Classroom! Add some writing every day!
Due Monday (11/19):
- Start brainstorming an idea for your final short story!
- If you want to listen to your own music during class, you MUST make a playlist for English class. Do so today.
Due Friday (11/16):
Write a SPA/ CER paragraph in which you analyze one creative choice that you made in your creative writing (ex// a piece of imagery, a piece of dialogue, an indirect characterization, a simile/ metaphor, etc.).
- S/C: What is the effect of that creative choice on the entire piece of creative writing? (ex// reveals something about a character, sets a specific mood, etc.)
- Background
- P/E: Quotation
- A/R: Why did you write it that way? How do those words accomplish the desired effect?
Due Thursday (11/15): Finish your Theme SPA/ CER paragraph for Short Story #3 if you did not do so in class.
If you have no idea what the theme is, actually answer these questions:
---How do you feel at the end/ throughout the story? Why?
---What big ideas/ questions does the story raise?
---What ironies are present?
---What is the title of the story and how might it relate to the message?
*Theme = fresh, applies to the world beyond the story, uses specific language.
Background Information = comes before the proof.
Proof = a quotation.
Analysis = refers to a specific part/ aspect of the quotation, not “this”.

- If you didn't finish your SPA/ CER paragraph analyzing an instance of imagery in your "New World" Scene, do so for homework! Worksheet above.
Due Thursday, Novemeber 8th
If you did not do so during class....
Write a SPA/ CER paragraph in which you state the theme of “A Sound of Thunder” and support your statement/ claim with proof/ evidence from the text.
S/ C – Fresh, interesting insight about human nature, the world, etc.
Background – Introduce story.
(ex// In “A Sound of Thunder”, Eckels …”)
P/ E – Include a quotation from the story.
(ex// Eckels says, “____.”)
A/ R – Explain how the quotation proves your statement/ claim.
(ex// The fact that ___ does/ says ____ proves ___ because…)

Read and annotate "A Sound of Thunder" (yes, the whole thing!). You will turn in your annotations for a grade, so be sure to make notes in the margin. You might: sum up plot points, make a connection, label a literary device, ask a question, react to a plot event, etc.
Due Friday, November 2nd
- Restorative Circle Response #2: Write about a time when you were underestimated/ misunderstood because of your gender/ sex or you encountered gendered expectations.
**If you did not finish your SPA/ CER paragraph in class (identify an indirect characterization in your "Missing Conversation" and explain how it effects the conversation), do so tonight!
Due Thursday, November 1st
Finish your "Missing Conversation", if you did not do so during class!
- At least two lines of dialogue.
- At least 10 lines total.
- At least one indirect characterization.
**It can be about ANYTHING, but make sure that portrayals of Patrick/ Mary match the ones in the story!

- Print out TWO digital sources that will support your editorial argument. One should be from the New York Times.
- Read your free read book!
- Prepare to do a "flash write" of your editorial tomorrow.

- Make sure you add some pathos to your school argument, if you did not do so today in class.
